Spiral Cable Wrap Sizes & Materials

Spiral Cable Wrap

M.M. Newman Corporation’s Heli-Tube® spiral cable wrap is protective tubing used to organize cables, hoses, and wires. Spiral cable wrap sizes and materials are designed to meet application requirements large or small in any environment—industrial, manufacturing, automotive, laboratory, medical, aviation, or office networking—wherever power and control systems, and pneumatic or hydraulic lines are present.

Heli-Tube® spiral cable wrap sizes and materials will vary depending on the application requirements. Material choices include PTFE, Nylon, Polyethylene, and Fire Resistant Polyethylene. These materials have a range of properties including fire-resistance, UV-resistance, and resistance to fuels, detergents, and chemicals.

Material choices or spiral wrap cable sizes will be determined by a number of factors, such as whether the spiral wrap is used indoors or outdoors. If the bundle is used indoors it will not need UV-resistance, whereas outside in tough environmental conditions it would, in most instances, require UV-resistance. A UV-resistant black polyethylene spiral wrap not only can be applied for use in direct sunlight, but its properties also resist saltwater, oils, fuels, and detergents. If the cable is exposed to high heat or operating in extreme temperatures, then PTFE should be the choice material to meet the bundling requirements. Whereas, for general purpose bundling requirements, natural polyethylene material would be suitable for organizing cables, hoses, or wires.

M.M. Newman Corporation manufactures the largest range of spiral cable wrap materials, sizes, and colors on the market today. Spiral cable wrap products are UL recognized and RoHS-compliant. Heli-Tube® spiral cable wrap offers complete organization of cables and wires and permits breakouts in any direction.

Here is a brief overview of Heli-Tube® spiral cable wrap materials and sizes.

Heli-Tube® Spiral Cable Wrap Material Selection

Natural polyethylene is an ideal low-cost material. With an operating temperature ranging from -76 F to 190 F, it is highly abrasion resistant and unaffected by most solvents.

For coding or decorative purposes, polyethylene also comes in a variety of colors—red, white, blue, yellow, brown, gray, green, orange and purple, and Day-Glo colors of pink, green, yellow, and orange.

Black polyethylene offers ultraviolet resistance but has the same properties as natural polyethylene. It features a UV absorber for use in direct sunlight over extended periods of time.

There is also fire-resistant white or black colored polyethylene for bundling applications requiring self-extinguishing material. The white and black fire-resistant polyethylene has operating temperature ranges of -4 F to 176 F.

Natural nylon is a ubiquitous synthetic material known for its wear resistance and low frictional properties. It is self-extinguishing and does not produce toxic fumes or byproducts when exposed to flame or high operating temperatures. Because of these properties nylon is recommended for use in enclosed, high-heat environments. Lightweight, durable, and highly abrasion-resistant, nylon performs over a wide temperature range (-40 F to 250 F).

Spiral cable wrap also comes in black nylon for outdoor applications that require ultraviolet resistance.

PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene) is an extensively used synthetic fluoropolymer of tetrafluoroethylene. It has the widest operating temperature of any material meeting application requirements of ranging from -450 F to +500 F. It is UV-resistant, non-flammable, and chemically inert, and available in a wide variety of colors including black.
