Frequently Asked Questions

What materials is Heli-Tube® spiral wrap available in?

Heli-Tube® spiral wrap is available in four materials to match different environmental and operational requirements. Low-Density Polyethylene (LDPE) is the standard general-purpose option, offering flexibility and abrasion resistance. PTFE provides the highest chemical and temperature resistance for demanding industrial environments. PTFE is fire-resistant per UL VW-1 and has a working temperature up to 500 degrees F. Nylon is self-extinguishing, lightweight, and highly abrasion-resistant, making it ideal for enclosed environments. Fire-Resistant Polyethylene is engineered for applications where flame prevention is critical. M.M. Newman can help identify the right material for your specific application.

What industries and applications use Heli-Tube® spiral cable wrap?

Heli-Tube® spiral cable wrap is used across a broad range of industrial applications. Common uses include robotics and automated manufacturing systems, aerospace cable management, marine and boatbuilding electrical systems, wind energy turbine cable protection, composite and FRP manufacturing (including resin infusion and vacuum infusion processes), hydraulic hose management, telecom infrastructure, and medical equipment. It is designed for environments where abrasion resistance, routing flexibility, and long-term cable protection are operational priorities.

Can Heli-Tube® spiral wrap be customized for specific applications?

Yes. M.M. Newman offers custom Heli-Tube® configurations including modified pitch, diameter, wall thickness, color, packaging, and cut length. Tubing is also available without a spiral cut. Custom-cut lengths are available, subject to factory quotation. For applications with specific dimensional or material requirements not covered by standard stock, contact M.M. Newman Corporation to discuss specifications. Samples are available upon request.

Is Heli-Tube® spiral wrap UL recognized and compliant with industry standards?

Yes. Heli-Tube® spiral wrap is UL recognized under component category UZKX2, Component Wire Positioning Devices (file card number E83405 (M)). It is manufactured under an ISO 9001:2015-certified quality management system and is both RoHS- and REACH-compliant. Certificates of conformance to applicable Military Specifications are available upon request, making Heli-Tube® suitable for defense and aerospace applications that require strict documentation.

How does Heli-Tube® spiral wrap compare to braided sleeving or conduit for cable protection?

Heli-Tube® spiral wrap offers several advantages over braided sleeving and rigid conduit in industrial applications. Unlike conduit, it can be applied to existing cable runs without disconnecting terminals. Unlike braided sleeving, it permits breakouts in any orientation, making it easy to route or reroute individual cables. It can also be reused, which reduces maintenance costs over time. For applications that require cable organization, abrasion protection, and flexible routing, Heli-Tube® is an efficient, cost-effective solution.
