Our Cable Wrap is RoHS Compliant! (Wait...What is RoHS?)

You may have come across the term in some industrial settings, but what is RoHS and when does it apply? RoHS is the Restriction of the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive that became a law in the United Kingdom in January 2013. RoHS stands for “Restriction of Hazardous Substances.” The directive was put in place to ensure that no new electrical or electronic equipment containing high levels of lead, cadmium, mercury, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyl, and polybrominated diphenyl ether flame retardants were sold on the market in the European Union. Illegal levels were agreed upon for each substance to determine what is safe for consumers and then transposed into law. Any company planning to sell electric equipment in the UK must comply with RoHS standards. RoHS is designed to limit dangerous chemicals in consumer products that have been linked to serious health conditions such as cancer. The occasional medical or military product is exempt from RoHS restrictions.

Because some of our cable wraps are used in electrical settings, we have made sure that they are RoHS compliant for all of our customers in the EU. Many laboratories now offer RoHS testing for manufacturers who want to know if their products can be sold overseas or if they have dangerous levels of chemicals present. Don’t miss out on European business by not complying with RoHS standards, plus RoHS compliance assures safer products for your employees, consumers, and those who recycle the used products.
